Courtney Slanaker graduated in May 2014, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the College of Public Health at the University of Arizona with a minor in Spanish. While studying abroad in Guatemala she started a small non-profit called “Walk With” that seeks to inspire positive social change through education, development and empowerment. Walk With was adopted by World Care in January 2015 and now falls under their 501(c)3 umbrella. Courtney has worked in rural communities across the globe to establish proper health and education through public health works. Her current project in Guatemala seeks to create sustainable incomes for women and families. She started a small campaign called “Bracelets for Change”, which teaches the local women how to make traditional Guatemalan bracelets while introducing ways to micro-finance the program on their own. Courtney is dedicated to advancing the health and equality of all communities by decreasing inequalities based on gender and income. She has worked internationally for the last 3 years but is seeking to make a difference in her local community. She is dedicated to empowering under-served populations and is excited to be leading World Care into the next generation of non-profit work. She strives to follow in the footsteps of Lisa Hopper and is humbled to be working for such a transparent and honest organization. The future is bright for World Care with a strong local team in place and invaluable history behind us!
